Safety & prevention

Off-piste skiing can involve certain risks. It is vital to follow the following basic rules to ensure your safety and the safety of your group.

Essential equipment

Before each session, please ensure you have the following with you:

  • A DVA (Avalanche Victim Detector), shovel and probe are compulsory.

  • A first aid kit and mobile phone are strongly recommended.

7 key points to remember:

  1. Get to know your group, and each individual’s level before you set off.

  2. Check the weather conditions and avalanche warning.

  3. Make sure you know how to use your DVA, shovel and probe (before you set off replace the batteries and ensure you are able to raise the alarm if necessary).

  4. Research the sector ahead of time (GPS, rescue information etc).

  5. Prepare for the unexpected: warm gloves, sun screen, first aid kit, repair kit, food, and a hot drink.

  6. Respect safety distances when skiing downhill, watch out for each other, and stop in safe areas.

  7. Practice using the DVA equipment on a regular basis.
     

Important reminder: When ski touring, as soon as you leave the areas that are accessible by ski lift you are no longer considered to be "off-piste", but in a mountainous area. The ski patrol are not in charge of carrying out rescue services here, as this falls under the jurisdiction of the State (PGHM, CRS – police organisations). The emergency number is 112.

The mountains welcome us all year round, but it is crucial to be aware of, and to analyse the risks, ensuring you plan in advance to be able to enjoy your adventure with peace of mind. In the event of adverse weather conditions, do not hesitate to forego your session.
